Thanks to all who helped make our pilot season a success. We had over 450 guests viewing student work, over 100 people at our education booth, a live challenge, school participation from LIC to Laurelton, and 10 weeks of design/fabrication. Register now to secure a spot in the upcoming challenge.
Students used printers from a variety of print companies including Stratasys and 3D Systems with local print on demand services coming from Shapeways ( in our very own borough). Now, we move from pilot to launch! We will be opening registration in June and closing it in October (or when we have 30 teams) for our 2015 season. And, this upcoming year we will have teams in every borough and a couple in the tristate.
Also, I can't wait to see the innovative car set, with a base foundation template so others can easily fabricate the car of their choice, at the Shapeways Maker booth. The winning set ( with an award in innovation) was designed by P.S.139 A Team (3rd & 4th graders) under the direction of Townsend Harris student coach, Rebecca West. Rebecca has donated over 150 hours of support to students at P.S. 139 in the last two years.
The winners in presentation, design during the live challenge, and the peoples' choice award went to P.S. 175 team A & Team B.
The collaboration award went to P.S. 11 under the guidance of Woodside on the Move.
Queens Paideia was awarded a tour of the Shapeways factory in LIC.
